ABOUT OUR NURSERY

  • Our Mission

Tennessee Naturescapes was started in 2007 in response to the need for more commercially available native plants. The business moved to it’s current location in 2009.

Our business continues its mission to provide quality grown native plants to the eastern U.S. .

The land on which Tennessee Naturescapes sits was once use by the county as a dump site for road rubble. We continue to work to turn it into a wildlife and pollinator haven. We hope to demonstrate that no matter what your beginning point is, native wildlife and plants can thrive in any location if given a chance.

Our team is passionate about the stewardship of our natural heritage and educating the public on creating diverse habitats for declining species such as the Monarch butterfly, honeybees and birds.

  • Our Growing Philosophy

The majority of our plants are propagated from locally sourced, legally harvested seed and parent material. While a portion of our stock are raised from other sources (plugs or seed from wholesale native plant nurseries), we strive to grow as many locally sourced plants as possible.

Many of our larger trees and shrubs are sourced from local wholesale suppliers.

None of our sales plants are dug from the wild!

We currently have three (3) retail houses and two (2) outdoor areas for retail plants. We have divided our areas according to our plants’ needs.

    House 1 - Sun House

    House 2 - Shade House

House 3 - Rain Garden House

    House 4 & 5 - Propagation Greenhouses

    House 7 - Azaleas

    House 8 & 9 - Trees and Shrubs

  • Why Are Native Plants Important?

Native plants and wildlife have co-existed for millennia in a delicately balanced ecological web that serves numerous important functions for nature and humankind alike. These benefits will only be found in our urban environments if we choose to replant native plants.

If you plant native plants in your yard, pollinators and other beneficial wildlife will follow. You will be helping to restore healthy ecosystem function as a whole. By allowing your plants to go to seed and delaying cutting back until early spring, you will be providing food and shelter for wildlife and pollinators.
