GARDEN SITE: ☀️-⛅ Performs best in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. Will tolerate poorly drained soil.

SIZE: 6-8ft. SPREAD: 3-4 ft.

FLOWERS: Large, feathery plumes of pale pink. July-August.

WILDLIFE: Pollen source for bees, beetles and flies.

ZONE: 3-9

NATIVE TO: Eastern and Central United States

Tall and spectacular, Filipendula rubra, is the crowning jewel of sunny, moist to wet garden sites. This upright perennial boasts huge, feathery plumes of pink flowers that are reminiscent of freshly spun cotton candy! After the blooms have faded, the large, deeply lobed, bright green leaves provide an attractive backdrop. Make sure to give this beauty lots of room to shine as it produces clonal colonies and can reign supreme in smaller spaces. Interestingly, due to limited reproductive ability and habitat loss this native species is considered imperiled. A dramatic addition for a naturalized meadow garden, moist woodland edge, rain garden or along pond and stream margins. Tolerant of wet soil, deer browse and has no serious pest or disease issues. Intolerant of dry soil and drought.
